MANANTHAVADI: A police team, including women police personnel, raided many houses in Valad and other villages in the region.

This was based on intelligence reports that arms training was provided for ultra outfits and weapons were stored in some NDF activists’ houses in the region.

The raid, which began on Tuesday night, continued throughout Wednesday. A large posse of police personnel, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police V.C. George, sweated it out for many hours but only some CDs and pamphlets were recovered.

So far no one has been taken into custody by the police. Though it was a confidential operation, it is suspected that someone within the police department may have leaked the information to these ultra outfits.

The raid would continue on Thursday, according to the police. Harishchandran Naik, circle inspector, Pulppalli; Anilkumar, sub inspector, Thalappuzha and Justin Baby, sub inspector, Mananthavadi also participated in the operations.

Pakistani national Fahad, who was arrested recently, had reportedly visited Vellamunda near here. Known as the citadel of the NDF, the region has been under police surveillance for the last few years.
