Evangelists’ Terror in Mid Sea: Plan to Turn Ocean Waters to Strife Area

Kollam: The unified move by Christian congregations in imposing proscriptions on Hindu fishermen, preventing them from fishing in waters south of Neendakara Bride has turned ocean waters into strife area. Imposition of such proscriptions baring fishermen from venturing deep sea is nothing but sheer savagery. The recent mid sea attack of fishermen from Azheekal coastline and subsequent capture, making them hostages and thereby subjecting them to infinite tortures has revealed the ulterior motives of Christian congregations.

With police and government turning a blind eye towards the matter inspite of repeated instances of mid sea attack is even more mysterious. The proscribing move is being seen as part of pressurizing tactics being indulged in, by a Christian majority area on minority Hindus. However, this is not a new phenomenon. A barbaric and inhuman act, which has been going on for two decades has been exposed to the outside world only recently. It was when, in Chavara, as many as 13 fibre fishing boats were destroyed and pushed into the ocean, that an investigation was called for. This led to a shocking revelation to the outside world, of the torments being faced by Hindu fisher folk of the area.

Sources have revealed that evangelist groups based in Anchuthengu, Thumba, Perumathura etc constantly unleash attacks on Hindu fishermen, with local churches as their planning centres. The victims are reduced to a state of begging, even in front of police personnel to procure the boats and other equipment seized by evangelist goons. A similar instance took place three months back, where armed evangelist rebels made four Hindu fishermen hostage in Thumba church- all this, following proscriptive directives issued by church authorities including the Vicar.

Hindu fishermen live under the threat of prolonged hunger as they are not allowed to venture south of the ocean from Neendakara bridge. For procuring permission, they must acknowledge the church say sources. The incidents are oft repeated in Chavara coastline, Kollam.
