VAIKOM: In a shameful incident never happened before in the history of “drunken” Kerala, a Devaswom staff who consumed liquor vomited inside the famous Vaikom Mahadeva Temple.

Even Vijayan was unaware that the festive party convened to celebrate the recognition of Travancore Devaswom Employees Front (INTUC) in the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) would turn to a predicament.

The incident happened at 4.30 pm Wednesday soon after Vijayan went to duty at the temple after the liquor party participated by some Devaswom staffs at the nearby North Palace (Vadakke Kottaram). He vomited inside the Naalambalam.

Immediately the temple was closed and ‘Shuddhi Kalasam’ was carried out to clean the temple. The priest had to repeat the evening poojas. The temple had to be closed very late.

Worshippers in protest gathered before the office of Devaswom Assistant Commissioner Office at 10 am on Thursday.

There are allegations that there were frequent “gatherings” at Vadakke Kottaram which is commonly used as a guest house or for wedding ceremonies.

Worshippers have also found out empty liquor bottles and cigarettes from the premises of Devaswom Assistant Commissioner Office.
