Devotees Thwart Devaswom Board’s Move of Temple Takeover.

Angry devotees staged a massive protest and thwarted the Devaswom Board’s move to take over the ancient and historic Mavoor Narichira Temple. The temple has an idol of Naraanathu Braanthan. The Devaswom Board finally backed off from the move.

According to reports, a group led by Devaswom Commissioner, along with a couple of police officers reached the spot claiming that they had HC orders to take over the temple. However, devotees of the area gathered in large numbers under the leadership of Kshetra Samrakshana Samiti (Temple Conservation Board) and expressed dissent over the takeover.

Speaking to Janam TV, district secretary of Kshetra Samrakshana Samiti Unnikrishnan made it clear that there would be a stringent set of remonstrations if the Devaswom Board made further bids in taking over the temple. “They must back off completely from any such plans. Last year too they had similar plan. But the devotees opposed tooth and nail and so they had to drop the proposal. If they plan to go ahead with any such moves, they must be ready to face a slew of protests,” he said.
