The curb imposed by Travancore Devaswom Board, on the Annadanam initiated by Ayyappa Seva Samajam has been quashed. According to a newspaper report, the Devaswom Board had imposed a penalty on the Annadanam, which ran into a raging controversy. Following the storm that gathered, instructions were given to withdraw the order, where the money that was forcibly deposited, was returned.

According to the directives issued, Ayyappa Seva Samajam headed by Shri Kummanam Rajasekharan was asked to remit a fee of rupees ten thousand on a daily basis, to the Annadana Fund of Devaswom Board, in order to conduct the feast. Adding to this was a soaring amount of rupees four lakhs during the time of Makaravilakku alone. The Board had also instructed a caution deposit of one lakh, before the Seva Samajam began its activities.

The Devaswom Board had also cut short the facility of providing drinking water that was to go along with the Annadanam. All these instances stirred the hornet’s nest and led to a raging controversy.
