Criticising both the UDF and LDF for the gross negligence in handling the Mullapperiyar issue, BJP Kerala State president PS Sreedhran Pillai said that both fronts contained the same parties, which had re-approved the Mullapperiyar deal in 1970.

In a Press release issued here on Monday, BJP president said that in those days the deal was not even discussed on the floor of the Assembly.

The BJP president accused all the nine Rajya Sabha members representing Kerala for sitting idle when the issue was taken up in the House for debate. “Moreover, the State Government failed in conducting the case properly in the Supreme Court.

“Our technical team also failed to bring the matters affecting the State in front of the court’s expert committee constituted to verify the safety of the Mullapperiyar dam,” alleged Mr Pillai.

Mr Pillai urged the State Government to take initiatives to rebuild the 110-year-old dam.

There is no point in the mudslinging engaged by the UDF and LDF. People of Kerala have witnessed their negligence and non-seriousness towards the issue

“The need of the hour is the united struggle for the State’s cause and BJP will cooperate with such sincere efforts,” said BJP president.
