THIRUVANATHAPURAM: The CPM state leadership has directed its youth wing DYFI to withdraw its campaign against the kin of former CJI K G Balakrishnan.

The decision was conveyed to the DYFI state leadership the other day.

Following the directive, DYFI state president M B Rajesh MP had to cancel an appointment with a news channel on Tuesday night to take part in a debate on the unaccounted wealth of P V Sreenijan, son-in-law of Justice K G Balakrishnan.

Party mouthpiece Desabhimani decided not to publish reports on the press conferences conducted by Rajesh and CPM state committee member M V Jayarajan in which both leaders demanded a detailed inquiry into the allegations. While Tuesday’s edition missed Rajesh’s press conference held in Kochi, Wednesday’s edition missed the press conference conducted by Jayarajan in Kannur.

”It is our editorial decision. We are more concerned about the agenda behind those allegations,” Desabhimani chief editor V V Dakshinamurthy told ‘Express’ when asked why the party mouthpiece failed to carry the press conferences of Rajesh and Jayarajan.

”As days pass by, the agenda is getting clear. We are not ready to follow the agenda of Rupert Murdoch,” said Dakshinamurthy. When contacted, Rajesh said that as a newspaper Desabhimani had every right to publish or reject a news report.

”I don’t know why they didn’t publish my press conference,” he said. Rajesh also failed to give a convincing reply when asked whether the DYFI stuck to its earlier stand on the allegations.

”What I have to say was conveyed to you in the press conference. Today, I have nothing new to add,” said Rajesh.

But DYFI sources said that all its leaders were upset at the unexpected directive of the party.
