CPM faction fued led to Spirit seizure
ALAPPUZHA: The CPM in the district is currently feeling the heat of the seizure of a large quantity of spirit worth Rs 50 lakh from the house of a relative of Pathiyoor panchayat president and party former area committee secretary M Bhaskaran at Kareelakulangara in Kayamkulam early on Sunday morning, and the subsequent attack on the Excise team by the spirit mafia in which Excise Circle Inspector Jayakumar was seriously injured.
The main allegation is that the son of a prominent CPM leader is involved in the Kareelakulangara spirit case.
Political pundits are reading much into the unearthing of spirit by the Vigilance wing of the Excise Department, looked after by staunch Achuthanandan loyalist P K Gurudasan, from the house of a relative of prominent leader of the Pinarayi Vijayan faction M Bhaskaran, that too from a village area. They see it as the factionalism in the CPM taking an ugly turn.
The condition of Chengannur Excise Circle Inspector Jayakumar, who was attacked by the CPM workers continues to be critical.Jayakumar has been admitted to the intensive care unit at the Sanker’s Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) here. A surgery was conducted on his head on Sunday. The SIMS authorities had to bring neurosurgeon Marthandan Pillai from Thiruvananthapuram for the surgery as the condition of Jayakumar was serious.
