Covert conversion through Ramzan feeding

via R Sajan published on August 13, 2011

In their ‘City Times’ programme at 8.30 pm on 12th August, Asianet News has celebrated thirty 7th Standard boys of an Alappuzha school fasting in Ramzan, in solidarity with nine Moslem classmates. The boys were shown as saying that they eat from the mosque early morning and dusk breaking the fast every day AFTER REPEATING THE PRAYERS and that they will try to involve the entire school next year. The lady class teacher was also shown saying that it was a great initiative in communal harmony and that the school authorities encouraged it overcoming some doubting parents.

Seventh Standard boys are not of the age to take such big decisions by themselves. Older people have made them do this after inciting them with the tasty and expensive food items given free at Ramzan fast-breaks at the mosque and the nine classmates’ houses.

I find it curious that Hindu parents of these children have not been suitably made aware of the dangers inherent here, by Hindu organisations. That the boys say the prayers, in return for the food or to earn it, is not appropriate at all. This sort of devious secular activities is on the increase in Kerala among the poorer sections of the Hindu society.
