T’PURAM: The LDF Government’s decision to request for a CBI probe into the Marad massacre based on the judicial commission report, has put the Congress in the dock. The Congress had no option but to welcome the CBI probe soon after the report was tabled in the House.

KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala himself welcomed the CBI probe though many of the Congress leaders wanted more time to study the report. The Congress leadership will have to do a lot of talking in the coming days as the report has made adverse remarks against the UDF Government led by A K Antony which was in power when the incident occurred.

The remarks by the judicial report is that the then Chief Minister A K Antony had put down the demand for the CBI probe owing to the pressure from the Muslim League which was an ally in the government.

According to the judicial report, the role of the Muslim League in the conspiracy behind the massacre and the mention of two the Muslim League leaders behind the conspiracy, have also tarnished the image of the UDF.

Among them one was even given a ticket to contest in the last Assembly elections. He got the ticket to contest after the judicial report was submitted to Oommen Chandy led UDF government.

If Antony has to explain for the failure in providing a free and transparent probe, Oommen Chandy has been put in trouble because it has become evident that his government had purposefully kept in abeyance the commission report from getting it published.
