Colleges and Student hostels under terrorist clutches

via HK Correspondent published on March 25, 2007

Kochi: Colleges and student hostels around Kothamangalam face threats from terrorist activities. It is being widely reported that Muslim extremist groups are actively working among youths in colleges including professional institutions in this area. More than 10 colleges are suspected to their infringement.

People organising such meetings have links with Jihadi meetings held in Bangalore, which proclaimed the slogan “Disintegrate India”. Youths are attracted to such meetings through friend circles in the name of religion. Most of the parents are unaware of their children’s involvement. Though meetings are termed as religious gathering and prayer, the main aim is to inject religious bigotry and anti-Indian feelings. Books and Pamphlets are distributed during such meetings.

Local people noticed subtle changes in those who attend such classes. Many people have conceded that students tend to change their dressing style and attitude towards friends from other community. They move together and stay in apartments. It’s a big change among students as they use to stay and hang around with friends irrespective of regional and religious differences. Classes are conducted thrice a week with physical training on lethal weapons. They keep changing their time and location to evade from police and public.

State police is closely watching this situation as they have got information from Intelligence department. Public is concerned and asking for night patrolling and more vigil from Police.
