The recent report submitted by Child Welfare Commission has revealed discrepancies in the functioning of as many as 13 orphanages functioning in Wayanad, which are under the aegis of Christian organizations. The inquiry was conducted following the episode of bringing in children from Jharkhand to various orphanages in Kerala.

The inquiry was conducted between June 11 and July 3 at Wayanad Collectorate Hall, in various sittings, where it was decided that action will be taken against 13 orphanages that functioned in the district, without necessary legal documents. 11 out of the 13 orphanages are under Christian organizations.

According to reports, out of the 50 registered orphanages, 37 have provided necessary documents. A notice has been issued to these orphanages regarding submission of documents. “The authorities have decided to take strong action against those who fail to submit documents”
