Those people who were considering Vastu Vidya, the ancient Indian science of architecture, as obsolete or superstitious have now become the admirers and users of this traditional science.

Significantly, a Christian Church at Kumbanad in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta district has been recently constructed as per the principles of Vastu Vidya. Besides, 12 churches in Kerala were renovated or rebuilt according to this ancient science.

The Vastu Vidya Gurukulam at Aranmula, the world’s  unique institution under the Kerala government, set up in 1993 for promotion and preservation of the traditional Indian architecture has so far given consultancy to around 1,600 residential buildings in the state which included six houses for six elite Muslims.

The demand for consultancy is on the increase and it has reached around 50 a month, Mr P N Suresh, Executive Director of the Gurukulam told HK. Given the  ever growing demand the Gurukulam is planning to set up a branch in New Delhi,he said.

The first ever major project, for which it had prepared the design and estimates etc., strictly as per the vastu science is the proposed Mannam Memorial Ayurvedic Medical College at Pandalam to be set up by the Mannam Memorial Ayurvedic Medical College Cooperative Society. The total cost of the project would come to around Rs12 crore. The medical college complex being developed to become a deemed Ayurveda University when completed would be  the first of its kind to be created as a 100 per cent Vastu Vidya medical college complex.

Educated people who had constructed houses as per modern architecture ignoring the Vastu Sasthra when had faced various problems such as illness of family members, losses in business etc, on a second thought preferred to experiment with this science and got their houses renovated or re-modeled. The experiment often turned out to be successful and that had become a source of publicity for Vastu Vidya Gurukulam, Mr Suresh added.
