Mattannur: Many days have passed after the attack on Chaitanya Puri Ashram in Nayattupara near Mattanoor, but police is not willing to take any action against the DYFI assailants.

As part of ongoing attacks across Kerala, DYFI attacked the Swami Chaitanya Puris Ashram, Swamiji and his old Mother. She had to be admitted to the hospital with injuries on head and face.

At First DYFI lodged a complaint to Home Minister and local Police station adgainst Ashram. Based on the complaint of DYFI, the Mattannur Circle Inspector Vishwanathan and party had come to the ashram and conducted a detailed enquiry. They verified all the documents and obtained copies of the title deed of the ashram for further verification. A detailed scrutiny of documents revealed that every document is legitimate and no property was purchased through unlawful means.

The ashram has a Homeo hospital that is providing free treatment to all the people in the locality. Hundreds of people from all religions avail this facility every day. The ashram also conducts ‘Annadanam’ to the poor people on special occasions. People around the area have a high opinion about the ashram. It also undertakes free medical check up for adivasis and distributes free medicines. They have also helped many poor families during the marriage of their daughters by giving money and clothes. Agriculture and Cow-rearing are the other activities undertaken by the ashram which provides lot of job to the villagers even from CPM families. The poor people who eke out a living with the help of the ashram are infuriated by the attack on it.

The ashrumum is functioning here for the past 10 years. It was built with the help of swami’s disciples abroad. Within this period the area that wore a barren look filled with rocks have transformed into a lush green agricultural land.

“Many of the attackers are people known to me who used to come here and eat food served with my hand. I am deeply pained that the same people have come to attack us”

said the mother weeping.
