The apex body of 51 palliyodams, the Palliyoda Seva Sangham has passed a resolution censuring Rajya Sabha deputy chairman PJ Kurien, Anto Antony MP and K Sivadasan Nair MLA from participating in ceremonies and events connected to Aranmula Lord Parthasarathi temple. This includes Aranmula Uthrittathi Water Festival to be held on September 20.

According to the resolution adopted, “PJ Kurien, Anto Antony MP, and K Sivadasan Nair MLA are to be censured from participating in the rituals and ceremonies for favouring the setting up of the proposed Aranmula Airport Project. The project will pose a destruction to the sacred groves, streams and ‘putharikandom’ connected with the temple.”

The resolution also makes it clear that “the airport project would eventually spell doom for five palliyodams, which would affect the very Aranmula  Uthrittathi Water Festival.”

A letter, signed by 41 members of the palliyodams, had demanded a session of the sangham to discuss the participation of the trio in forthcoming rituals and ceremonies. A special meeting of the palliyodam representatives was convened following this, attended by representatives of 40 palliyodams.
