Thiruvananthapuram: Following the scathing attack launched on Idukki Bishop Mar Mathew Anikuzhikattil by SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappilly Natesan, for unsavoury remarks against Ezhava community, the former has tendered his apology. With Bishop Anikuzhikattil making unsavoury remarks about members of Ezhava community, Vellappilly lashed out that the congregation head was nothing but a “venom spitting communalist”. The onslaught forced the Bishop to buckle and seek pardon from the Hindu community, where he expressed regret stating that he intended no malice with his statements of the previous day.

While speaking on the rising instances of Christian girls marrying from outside their religious flock, the Bishop made a sarcastic reference to Ezhava community holding them responsible for the inter-religious marriage. The voice of the wounded Ezhava community at this snide was made vocal by Vellappilly Natesan, who alleged that the Bishop was indulging in practices that vandalized the delicate communal balance of society. “A case should be registered against him for the same,” he lashed out.

Accusing the Christian congregation of spending crores and indulging in religious conversion, the most apparent being the conversions at Muringoor. Vellappilly said, “It is not befitting for a conscientious head of a religious community to make such irresponsible statements.”
