BVK organise lecture on News, Media and Prejudices

As part of forthcoming monthly lecture series organised by Bharathiya Vichara Vedi on News ,Media and Prejudices will be lead by Shantanu Bhagwat, Director, India Policy Institute, New Delhi. The talk will be held at 6pm on 30 Nov 2010 at Samskrithi Bhavan, GPO Lane, Statue, Trivandurm.

Media in India, which a strong democracy needs, of late has been into controversies. The talk on “News, Media and Prejudices” will cover aspects related to news reporting, mainstream media (mainly in English) and perceived biases and prejudices in news-stories. It also discuss ways in which the society can help raise awareness about this offline and help improve standards in reporting.

Shantanu Bhagwat an engineer by training is also a one-time diplomat and a venture investor. In a career spanning two decades, Shantanu has worked across geographies and industries, including several years in Japan and in the UK. Until recently a Partner at a venture capital firm, he has also worked at Monitor Co. in London. Prior to that, spent several years in the Indian Foreign Service, working in New Delhi and Tokyo.
Shantanu is a graduate in Computer Engineering and holds an MBA from London Business School where he was a Chevening Scholar. He is also a Charter Member of TiE-UK in London and on the Board of Directors of India Policy Institute in New Delhi.
