Heated arguments took place in the bar council meeting on Sunday over the enrolment of nuns and priests. Members moved a resolution against the bar council’s enrolement committee decision to allow nun’s and priests to enrol.

According to members, the bar council of Kerala has suppressed a letter sent by the Bar Council of India dated 08-05-06 that the decision to allow the nuns and priests to enrol be kept in abeyance as the Bar Council of India was moving a special leave petition in the Supreme Court against the order of the division bench of the Kerala High Court. Members wanted to know as to why this crucial information was suppressed by the office-bearers of the state bar council.

However, the resolution moved was defeated but the members who were opposed to this told The Pioneer that “The decision of the bar council and the enrolment committee has to be transparent and there was no need for a haste in this, we only wanted to bring the issue before the other members”.
