Blast Case: Search on for 7 Pilgrims

The police team investigating the low-intensity bomb blast at Thrikakkara is on a lookout for seven Sabrimala pilgrims from Kasargod who were present at Ayyappa Thavalam when the bomb set off on Tuesday night. It has come to the light that these pilgrims arrived in the vehicle bearing a fake registration number.

According to the police, they have not yet received any major lead in the case. However, the people present at the spot would be interrogated.

“When we checked the vehicle number details recorded at the register of Ayappa Thavalam, it was found that seven pilgrims from Kasargod present at the spot had given a fake number. The vehicle number recorded at the register was of a motor bike. One of the pilgrim who suffered burns was among them. Information would be passed on to police stations across the state and these persons would be summoned for interrogation,” the police official said.

The investigation team has recorded the statement of witness who saw explosion. “The bomb used for the explosion was a country bomb which exploded after some one fired the wick. There was no timer. The witness said that he had seen no one at the spot when the blast occurred,” the official added.

The police has sought the assistance of cyber cell for tracking the mobile phones present at the location when the bomb exploded. Similarly, control rooms have been asked for tapes of CCTV installed in the traffic nearby area.

“Attempts are being made to trace down the culprits. Since the investigation is at its initial stage, nothing can disclosed now,” a top police official said.
