KOZHIKODE: A Communist Party of India (Marxist) worker’s house was damaged in a powerful bomb explosion at Chekiyad Mamundari in the Valayam police station limits in Vadakara on Monday night. The roof of the house of M.P. Kumaran was destroyed in the blast. There were no casualties as the occupants were outside the house, the police said. Preliminary investigation revealed that a country-made device allegedly kept inside the house had exploded due to friction. The police also recovered an old sword from the house. The police registered a case and took into custody a few persons, including the residents of the house, for interrogation. The bomb squad inspected the site and samples of the debris were sent for chemical examination. The rural areas of the district had witnessed violent clashes between rival political parties before and after the recent Lok Sabha polls. Isolated incidents had taken place at Mamundari during the election campaigning. The district administration had also called a meeting of representatives of political parties to calm the situation
