BJP’s Surendran posing stiff challenge in Left bastion

KASARGODE :BJP is posing a spirited challenge to the candidates of ruling LDF and opposition UDF in Kasargode, a traditional CPI-M pocket borough, making it one of the very few Lok Sabha constituencies in Kerala witnessing a three-way race.

CPI-M’s deputy leader in the Lok Sabha P Karunakaran is back in the fray facing stiff challenge not only from the Congress’s Shahida Kamal but also from BJP’s stormy petrel K Surendran in the constituency bordering Mangalore in Karnataka, where the Sangh parivar has a strong base.

Kasargode has returned Communists to the Parliament 11 times and stalwarts such as late A K Gopalan and E K Nayanar had represented it.Reputed as the cradle of the agrarian movement, the CPI-M has strong roots in all the assembly segments of Kasargode.

A dynamic and energetic leader, K .Surendran aged 39, hails from Ulliyeri in Kozhikode. He is a graduate in Chemistry. He enrolled as a member of BJP in 1990. He is currently the State President of Yuvamorcha and Advisory board member of Nehru Yuva Kendra. He has served as the ABVP State Committee member, Yuvamorcha district General Secretary, Yuvamorcha District President, Yuvamorcha State Secretary and Yuvamorcha State General Secretary.

Shri Surendran’s social activities and positions include being the Director of North Malabar Co-operative Marketing society, Member BACYP-NYKS, President, Desa Seva Samskarika Kendram. He is also founder Director board member of National Yuva Co-operative society.

Shri Surendran has proven himself to be an able administrator and organizer.
