KOCHI: BJP’s Kerala unit ton Friday threatened to launch state-wide agitations if Health Minister P K Sreemathi does not quit on her own or is not removed by the Chief Minister following the recent deaths of at least 38 new borns at a government hospital in the state capital.
Demanding strong action against the Minister, party state general secretary A N Radhakrishnan told a press meet here that the Minister remained a mute spectator as babies were dying at the SAT hospital due to infections.
The Minister failed to take action when there were chickungunya deaths, he alleged.
Radhakrishnan alleged that the Minister had visited the hospital on April 16 and was aware of the alarming situation there, but had failed to take any action to contain the infection.
He also criticised CPI(M) Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan for his remarks against the court which had directed the police to register case against the Minister and seven others in connection with the death of babies.
