BJP seeks Kodiyeri’s resignation

KOCHI: The BJP in Kerala yesterday
demanded that the state Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan
resign in the wake of the High Court’s observation that
the law and order situation in the state was ”in a
shambles.” `Owning moral responsibility for the state
of affairs, Balakrishnan should resign immediately’,
BJP state General Secretary M T Ramesh told a `Meet
the Leaders’ programme, organised by the Calicut Press
Club here.

Alleging that the CPI(M)-led LDF rule had made life
miserable for the common man, he said the Court’s observations
had come as a warning to the Achuthanandan-led Government.

Accusing both LDF and UDF of seeking the support of
‘extremist’ organisations during the polls, Ramesh said
`if the LDF is after PDP, then the UDF is clandestinely
seeking the help of another Muslim outfit National Development
Front’.

Expressing hope that the BJP would fair well at the
hustings, he urged the electorate to remain `vigilant’
and defeat both the Fronts.

The High Court had Tuesday observed that law and order
was ‘in a shambles’ and that Kannur, from where Balakrishnan
represents the state assembly, had contributed to ‘a
handful of hardcore criminals.’
