BJP-RSS hartal total in Thalassery
The dawn-to-dusk hartal called by BJP-RSS in the Thalassery Assembly constituency area on Monday was total and largely peaceful. The call for the hartal was given in protest against the arrest of BJP workers in connection with the murder of CPI(M) worker Jijesh of Nangarathupeedika.
Some private buses had come under stone-pelting on the national highway near Mahe. No other incident had been reported during the 12-hour hartal.
Emergency services and milk, newspapers, marriages, etc were exempted from the hartal.
The protest was held at the Thalassery municipal area, Dharmadam, Eranholi and kathiroor Panchayaths which come under the Thalassery constituency in New Mahe region. Admissions to various schools had been postponed due to the hartal.
RSS-BJP leaders said that arrests of their workers in connection with the murder of Jijesh were extremely objectionable.
The RSS had earlier denied any involvement in the murder and then Kannur DSP Manoj Abraham had almost cracked the case clearing RSS workers of the charge.
The police, after investigating on the RSS links, had then put the blame on NDF as the killing of NDF worker Faisal in 2006 had taken at the same place and the culprits were CPI(M) workers.
