SULTHAN BATHERY: In a major setback to the UDF leadership here, the Front lost the presidentship of the Service Cooperative Bank here in the election held on Saturday, thanks to the internal squabbles within the Congress.

Former president of the bank, M Ramakrishnan, a nominee of the Congress, had to resign from the post on allegations of irregularities in the appointments of peons in the bank.

The newly elected bank president, A Surendran, is a nominee of the BJP. He bagged 7 votes while V.J. Thomas of the UDF could manage only 3 votes. Four UDF members kept off from the voting in protest against the candidature of Thomas.
