BJP demands special board for TDB postings
BJP State president PK Krishnadas has asked the State Government to constitute a special board for recruitment to the Travancore Dewaswom Board (TDB), the body that administers almost all the major temples in south Kerala including the famous Lord Ayyappa temple at Sabarimala.
Addressing mediapersons on Thursday on the conclusion of the three-day party leadership conclave here, Krishnadas alleged that the Government move to route the recruitments through the Public Service Commission was sinister and intended to topple the reservation for Hindus in the appointments to the Dewaswom board.
The Nair Service Society had also been clamouring for a special board for recruitments to the TDB. With the statement from the BJP State president and the NSS leadership, it is clear that the Hindu organisations are opposing the decision of the Government and there could be widespread agitations in the State against the Government decision in the coming days.
The BJP leadership meet also decided to conduct grassroots work in select constituencies for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. The leadership meet also decided to have discussions with like-minded political parties for improving the position of the NDA in the State. The meet, however, decided that the party would not have any truck with either the CPI(M) or the Congress in Kerala.
The violent incidents in Thalassery in the first week of this month and the direct role played in it by the senior CPI(M) leaders were the main subject of the discussion at State leadership meet. Leaders said that Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan failed to contain the unilateral attack by the CPI(M) against RSS-BJP workers. Kodiyeri and Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan had not reached the spot immediately after Thalassery, the Home Minister’s home constituency, turned into a killing field. The BJP leadership meet expressed concern over the killing spree by the CPI(M) with the alleged connivance of the police. Several leaders said that CPI(M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan had a definite role to play in the recent violence.
The BJP leadership meet also expressed concern over the approach of the State Government of showering favours to the minority communities. It also criticised vehemently the Government decision on the Paloli Muhammad Kutty committee report, which according to the party, was blatant appeasement of minority communities.
The leadership meet also decided to conduct awareness programmes among the party sympathisers on the dangers of the several actions of the LDF Government including the appeasement of the minorities. The leaders also made scathing attacks against the education policies of the Government and the decision to change the regular SSLC exam timings.
Criticising the action taken by the LDF Government on the Chengara land issue, they said the CPI(M) and its Left partners were now acting against the toiling labourers and that the party leaders were sitting cozily in the company of the affluent sections.
The BJP leaders also discussed the actions taken by the Government in the HMT land deal issue and opined that the LDF had turned into a virtual real estate company.
