BJP councillor sworn in at Thrissur

THRISSUR: N. Prasad of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was on Tuesday sworn in as councillor of the Thrissur Corporation. Mayor R. Bindu administered the oath of office.Prasad won the byelection to the Thekkinkad division, securing 1,217 of the 2,706 votes polled. He defeated Left Democratic Front (LDF)-supported Independent candidate P R Ravinchandran, (859 votes), United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate P. Radhakrishnan (605 votes) and Thottan Paul (six votes). Nineteen votes were declared invalid. The byelection was held following the death of Thiyyadi Jayan.
