KOZHIKODE: The BJP’s state unit will elect its new president in the first week of September. Along with the new set of office-bearers, the state representatives to the national council would also be elected, party’s state President, P S Sreedharan Pillai told reporters here.

Announcing the party’s organisational polls, he said the elections were being held as scheduled after three years.

Elections at district and bloc levels would be held in August, he said.

Condemning the recent increase in the prices of petrol and diesel, Pillai said his party would intensify its agitation on the issue in the coming days as the hike had badly affected the common man.

The state government should also come forward to lessen the burden by reducing the state taxes on the products, he added.
