Banning festivals absurd, says Parameswaran

T’PURAM: Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram director P. Parameswaran has said that it was absurd to ban festivals, which are part and parcel of our rich heritage, on sheer technical grounds.

Referring to the recent Supreme Court judgment that imposes restriction in the conduct of Thrissur Pooram, Parameswaran said in a statement here that any attempt to impose restrictions on festivals would wound society’s soul.

He demanded a larger debate on issues surrounding festivals and said hasty decisions and their enforcement by force should never be allowed to weaken our socio-religious festivals.
