Balagokulam has demanded an unconditional apology from Congress MLA PC Vishnunath for his derogatory comments regarding Ashtamirohini Shobayatras organized by the organization every year.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Balagokulam state organize V Harikumar pointed out that the celebrations have become part and parcel of Kerala society over the years, and many political leaders including those from the Congress have participated in the festivities to mark the birth of Lord Krishna.

Balagokulam statement also pointed out that the organization, even recognized by the United Nations, works in the state with the support of people from all walks of life.

PC Vishnunath, MLA from Chengannur, had alleged that Balagokulam Shobyatras could sow the seeds of communalism among the youngsters and asked the parents to be careful about it.

Following the uproar, Vishnunath, in a statement issued from Haripad on Saturday, once again reiterated his charges and reportedly refused to tender apology.

The organization pointed that Vishnunath made these comments without any provocation and asked the Congress party to explain their stand on the issue.

Political observers feel that the MLAs statement is not unintentional or inadvertent as it comes out at a time when efforts are on by social organizations like SNDP and NSS to forge Hindu unity in the state that could prove to be a setback for MLA like Vishnunath.
