Attack on Yuva Morcha leader, 3 CPM activists held

KASARGOD: The police have arrested three CPM activists, including a DYFI leader, for the attack on Valsaraj, 35, a Yuva Morcha leader and member of the Mangalpady grama panchayat.

The police arrested Sivaprasad, 31, DYFI’s village secretary of Uppla, Abdul Azeez, 22, and Abubacker Siddique, 25, both natives of Subbayyakatta.

Valsaraj was attacked by the accused on December 18 while he was returning home from work. The assailants smeared chilly powder on Valsaraj before attacking him.

The police took into custody the motorbike which was used by the assailants. Blood stained dress of the accused along with two long knives were also seized by the police. The accused were remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday.

The CPM had earlier denied the role of the DYFI or the CPM in the attack. The Yuva Morcha had organised a hartal on December 19 in Uppla in protest against the attack.

CPM activists Siddique, Sivaprasad and Azeez who were arrested by the police in connection with murder attempt on Yuva Morcha leader Valsaraj.
