Namasthe,

Hope you are aware of the ongoing agitation against the construction of an airport that violates all prevalent laws, at Aranmula, a temple town located in the heart of Pathanamthitta.  This is not a protest against development, or against any particular religion, or against any company but strictly against the attempt to fill up paddy lands, wetlands, and water streams etc., which are our water resources.  As you know, the Environmental Clearance for the project has been pending with the Central Ministry for Environment and Forests. We have planned to conduct a campaign to draw attention of higher authorities like Smt. Jayanti Natarajan, Minister for Environment and Forest, and bring forward positive changes. So, we request you to take part in this mass protest by sending the following message to the Minister. Also requesting to forward the same to as many people as possible.

In the service of motherland,
Kummanam Rajasekharan,
Chief Patron, Aranmula Paithruka Grama Karmasamithy.

Find below the message format:

To, Smt. Jayanti Natarajan,
Honorable Minister for Environment and Forests Affairs,

We request you not to sanction the Environmental Clearance for the construction of an International airport at Aranmula, Pathanamthitta district, Kerala, on the following grounds.

1.       The airport is proposed to be constructed filling hundreds of acres of paddy lands, wetlands, water streams, groves etc. which could result in environmental disasters and eco-imbalance.

2.       The proposed project vacates more than 2500 families from their own land.

3.       District collector has declared 232 acres of land earmarked for the airport as excess land; hence, the company does not have sufficient land for the construction.

4.       The company has violated almost all prevalent laws including Irrigation and Water Conservation act, Land Reforms act, Water Preservation act, Wetlands act, Environmental protection act, Kerala Paddy and Wetland Conservation act etc..

5.       Filling of the tributaries to the Pampa can have adverse effect on the agriculture of Kuttanad, and thus on the food system of Kerala.
