Appointment for Plus One Teachers: Role of Muslim League Middlemen under suspicion

published on July 1, 2014

The appointment allotted for extra teachers for aided schools for the current academic year appears to be heading for a major scam. School managements now claim that middlemen who have approached them have sought appointment of one teacher in each of the specified schools, according to the directions of state education minister. The order is unofficial and has been directed at schools that have been allotted a fresh batch of Plus One.

It is said that for each batch, three to five appointments are made. Managements are said to be demanding Rs 30 – 40 lakhs per appointment. According to middlemen, one of these appointees would be specified by the minister, with the names being given soon.

There are widespread charges that this would give a chance for members of the minister’s party to reap lakhs of money.  Middlemen are said to be acquiring lakhs from the management of each aided school, for getting the extra plus one batches set. Then, on close heels, they get an added commission for the ‘special’ seat. It has been alleged that this fiasco is lading to corruption worth crores.

With such corrupt practices going on, and appointment being done this way, those eligible are being put in the rear. The voice being raised, seeking transparency in matters related to appointment of teachers is now getting louder, clearer and stronger.
