Anti-sabotage police squad withdrawn from Guruvayur Temple
GURUVAYUR: The anti-sabotage police squad at the Guruvayur Sree Krishna temple was withdrawn on Saturday.
The team was deployed for checking devotees with metal detectors at the east and west gopuras of the temple through which the devotees are permitted to enter the temple.
The Northern Range IG of Police, M N Krishnamoorthy, held a meeting of senior level police officers at Thrissur recently regarding the security arrangements at the temple and informed the Devaswom that the security of the temple should be tightened further as per the directions from the Union Home Ministry.
The Devaswom managing committee, after discussions with Kunnamkulam DySP, C K Ramachandran and Guruvayur CI of Police Bijubhaskar this week, has decided to implement permanent hi-tech security arrangements as required by the police, very soon.
Surprisingly, the anti-sabotage team was withdrawn on Deepavali, when the temple witnessed heavy rush of devotees.
The Devaswom authorities were not informed about the withdrawal of the special team, according to temple manager Vijayan Nambiar. The issue has been conveyed to Thrissur District Collector M Beena, who is having the additional charge of the Devaswom administrator. The Collector has taken up the issue with the authorities concerned.
