An Inquiry on Malayalees in Gulf: Those Absconding in between Making Way into Terrorism?

There are reports of central intelligent forces gathering details of youths who have ventured into Gulf countries and have disappeared thereafter. The move comes after doubts about their participation in terror networks in Iraq and Libya surfaced. The investigations have narrowed down to those who have conveniently absconded after reaching Saudi Arabia by availing Umrah Visa meant for Haj.

According to statistics, over 60 lakh Indians work in West Asia, including Gulf countries. Apart from this, those working illegally, without adequate official papers stand in legions. However, the central government of India does not have details pertaining to these people. According to Central Ministry of external affairs, there are around 10,000 Indians in Saudi, according to official status. But illegal immigrants, stand at around 6 lakhs, out of which more than half are Malayalis.

It has also been reported that the number of those absconding from Kuwait is also on the rise, with Kuwait’s borders providing an easy passage to infiltrate into Iraq.

Intelligence forces have sought the aid of state government for obtaining details of those who are supposed to have joined these terror networks. Details have also been gathered from the P.I office in Kochi, which comes under Immigration department. The Saudi Arabian government has also handed over to Indian government, details of those who have conveniently disappeared after reaching the country in the name of Haj.
