Amrita’s no-tobacco show tomorrow

The Anti-Tobacco Movement at Amrita (ATMA), a wing of the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), will organised various programmes to observe World No Tobacco Day which falls on Wednesday (May 31), in association with the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Rotary Club of Cochin and the Kochi Harbour.

Chairman ATMA S Vaidyanathan told newsmen here on Monday that to commemorate the day, health sciences seminar, health exhibition, public meeting and a musical programme would be organised.

The seminar would be conducted on Wednesday at IMA Hall, Ernakulam. It would feature sessions by experts like CR Soman, KR Thankappan and K Ramdass. Benny Thomas, president of IMA and DM Vasudevan would be moderators. A public awareness exhibition on the harmful effects of the use of tobacco and related products will be held on Wednesday and June 1 and 2 at the Women’s Association Hall.

Sebastian Paul MP would inaugurate the function. After this, a public meeting would be held at TDM Hall, which would be inaugurated by Fisheries Minister S Sarma. Justice K Narayana Kurup will chair the meeting. After the meeting, a musical night has been arranged.
