League forced to swallow pride; realizes that options are limited – (Janam TV Report)

Realising that the options before them are very limited, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leadership has reportedly decided to refrain from a tit for tat response to Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala at the moment.

Delivering the inaugural address at C K Govindan Nair (CKG) commemoration meet organised by the Kozhikode DCC here on Saturday, Ramesh had said that one day IUML would become a liability to the Congress, and that C K Govindan Nair, a former KPCC president, had earlier said that the IUML would demand more seats in the future, during the initial stages of coalition government.

The IUML leadership which had an “urgent” leadership meet at Panakkad in Malappuram weighed the pros and cons of the issue and came out with a rather tame response. “It is the responsibility of both Congress and IUML to keep the UDF coalition intact,” said party general secretary E.T Muhammad Basheer M P who also pointed out that the alliance was decades old. Basheer also told mediapersons after the meet that the party will take a considered stand on the issue on July 4 after a meeting of the state secretariat.

Earlier on Saturday, while addressing the death anniversary meeting of former KPCC president C .K Govindan Nair at Kozhikode , KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala had said that the alliance with Muslim League had become a liability for Congress.
“I agree with C K Govindan Nair’s advice that a safe distance should be maintained with religious and communal organisations. Whenever the Congress violated this, the organisational strength of the party has weakened,” the KPCC president had said.

Electricity Minister Aryadan Mohammed, who was also present at the occasion, had lauded the KPCC chief for his stand.

However, later, Ramesh later took a U-turn from his statement, stating that he was only quoting C K Govindan Nair.“Indian Union Muslim League is an ineluctable ally of the UDF,” Ramesh Chennithala said.
