All-party delegation to Delhi a political drama: BJP

via Pioneer News Service | Kannur published on April 16, 2008

The BJP State president PK Krishnadas has said that the all party delegation to Delhi for Central assistance to the State was a political drama and added that nothing concrete has evolved from this meeting. The BJP leader was speaking to reporters here on Wednesday.

Krishnadas said that both the Chief Minister and the leader of the Opposition has not shown total sincerity in gaining something from the Centre and has come back to the State without getting any promises from either the Prime Minister or the Agriculture Minister. He also called upon the two leaders to conduct a sit in protest before the residence of the Prime Minister to showcase the State’s protest to the Centre on sidelining it.

Krishnadas alleged that the State delegation, comprising parties who are part and parcel of the Central Government, did not have the will to fight for the State and added that this was a mere gimmick played jointly by both the ruling front and the Opposition.

The BJP State president said that the Central Government action would lead to mass suicide in the State and alleged that the all party delegation has not taken pains to properly convey the woes faced by the farmers of the State as also the losses to the farmers in the unexpected summer rains. He also charged the all party delegation of not able to get anything substantial from the Central Government even after meeting the Prime Minister and the Agriculture Minister.

As both the ruling LDF and the Opposition UDF are part and parcel of the Central Government there was an expectation to the people that 100 per cent of the request given by the State would be sanctioned by the Centre but nothing happened, Krishnadas said.

The delegation has also requested the Centre to reinstate the 1,13000 tonnes of rice sanctioned by the NDA Government under Vajpayee and added that unless the public distribution system was streamlined the food crisis in the State could not be solved.

He also alleged that the anti-State attitude of the Centre was mainly seen in the rejection of the request of the State Government and added that the all-party delegation was not even able to lodge its strong protest before the Centre.
