Sometimes tragic accidents bring out facts that are lying hidden for years. The recent fire of an LPG container at Karunagapally is one such. Though tragic the list of people who rushed for rescue operation from their roadside establishments and were injured reveals something very striking. Almost all the roadside real estate at Karunagapally are owned by one particular community now. The acquiring process started a decade ago. The important point to note is that retired police officers who get hardly few lakhs when they retire have also invested crores and crores in acquiring hospitals and other commercial establishments at Karunagappally.

After the demolition of the unwanted and unused Masjid at Ayodhya, so many people have lost their lives. But so many others have also made their life out of this demolition. Madaani, the father of Indian terrorism, is a native of Mynagappally which is very near to Karunagappally and that explains many of the anomalies we notice. The land value at Karunagappally junction in the 80s’ was around 25,000/- per cent and now it is 25 lakhs per cent. The complete area has been acquired by one particular community at an average rate of 10 lakhs per cent in the last one decade and the investment made totals almost 100 crores. Where did this money come from? Did a few hundred Muslims from Karunagapally get a windfall from somewhere?

Maadani, ISS, PDP, 1990s’, police etc., are some of the clue words that can provide an answer to this important question. The container full of fake currency from Pakistan that has been sunk by the powerful politicians and police in Kochi has surfaced all over Kerala. It is not totally strange that its most prominent recipient and his disciples & godfathers got a little bit more than others. Lakhs and lakhs must be still hidden in the cupboards at Anvarserry where KP, NIA, IB and RAW are afraid of treading. But those who play with fire have a lot to fear from fire and that’s what the LPG container fire has done at Karunagappally. Those poor who lost their lives are only the less fortunate who got burnt in this high profile crime involving state security.
