ABVP not to oppose Global Edn Meet
KOZHIKODE: The ABVP on Tuesday said it will not oppose the Global Education Meet slated for next week in Kochi.
ABVP state president A. Vinod and secretary V P Rajeevan told at a press conference that the education sector is undergoing sweeping changes and a thorough discussion on the changes in the sector is the need of the hour.
‘‘We have come to know that the ensuing meet will discuss the challenges being faced by the higher education sector. Hence, we will not oppose the meet.’’
ABVP sought the inclusion of student organisations in the discussions to be held during the meet.
They said the Left student organisations are blindly opposing the meet. During the previous LDF Government many organisations had conducted international education conferences.
They should not conceive that only they have the right to discuss about Kerala development.
They said persons like Justice V R Krishna Iyer and Prof M K Sanu are being used as political pawns by the Left parties, in their protest against the meet.
The meet should not take a positive stand on the collaboration of Kerala educational institutions with foreign firms.
A decision on entering into tie-up with foreign universities should be taken only after the Central Government brings in necessary legislation in this regard, they said.
