Nizamuddin, one of the absconding accused in the case of the massacre of eight Hindus at Marad, a fishing village near Beypore, Kozhikode on May 2, 2003, was arrested at Kochi International Airport at Nedumbassery on Friday morning. Twenty-seven-year-old Nizamuddin, 148th accused in the case known as Marad-2 riots, was held by the Immigration Department when he landed at the airport from Qatar. He was later handed over to the Kerala Police. Nizamuddin had been declared an absconder after he fled the country for the Gulf immediately after the massacre. A special court had sentenced 62 of the total 148 accused to life imprisonment on January 15, 2009.
