A FEW OF THE GREAT SANCTITIES OF SRIMADH BHAGAVATHAM

Srimadh Bhagavatham’s teachings are ever new and ever inspiring.  

Meditation on the divine life of Sri Krishna is elevating.  

Meditation charms away the sorrows of life and helps realisation of the God of Love ? Krishna.

Chanting of Krishna’s names purifies the mind. 

Constant remembrance of the Lotus Feet of Sri Krishna purifies the heart, dispels evil, and nourishes true love and supreme wisdom.

Saints are the best and the noblest amongst men, for within the sanctuaries of their hearts, Krishna, the Soul of souls, is constantly meditated upon.

Suta Pauranikar was twice blessed, since he at first imbibed Srimadh Bhagavatham personally from Suka Brahmam, who was expounding the holy text to Parikshit during the last seven days of Parikshit1s earthly existence and again recounted Srimadh Bhagavatham in the concourse of the sages led by Sage Saunaka at the Deerga Satram, which was in progress at Naimisaranyam.

Srimadh Bhagavatham is the essence of the Vedanta.

Srimadh Bhagavatham is very dear to the lovers of God

Srimadh Bhagavatham is studied by the spiritually enlightened with reverence.

Srimadh Bhagavatham contains truths, which are indeed pure and they purify all, who touch them.

Srimadh Bhagavatham frees from all evils and also instructs in wisdom all those who read or devoutly listen to its exposition.

PREFACE

The eighteenth, the last, the holiest and an epitome of all the Puranas, Bhagavatham is recognised as the final authority on divine and scriptural matters, after the Vedas, Upanishads and Gita.

In this, Dharma has taken refuge after Lord Krishna relinquished His Incarnation.   In this, is the secret that even the most abstruse philosophical truths are expounded most lucidly through absorbing episodes.   It contains all the proceedings of the Avatars, lives of Sages, devotees and kings.   It instills in the hearts of men, Love and Devotion of God.   Divine Love delivers men from all Evils and Impurities.

By its extensive exposition, it has kept and is keeping alive all over the country, the spiritual tradition and brings within the reach of all, the peace which can better be experienced than explained.   Its study is the best way to become acquainted with the living religion of India.   Listening to it pleases God the most.    Worship of this is equated to the worship of Lord Krishna and confers the four Purushartas, namely, Religious merit, Earthly possessions, Enjoyment and Liberation.   Even the presence of this text, wards off evils from the precincts, in addition to such auspicious accretions.

Srimadh Bhagavatham was composed by Sage Vedavyasa, a part manifestation of God, at the instance of Brahmarshi Narada.   It was taught by Vedavyasa to his infant son-turned-sage, Sukabrahmam, knower of the Supreme.   He, in turn, for the first time narrated it in a Sapthaham (seven days), on the banks of the Holy Ganga, in the assembly of sages, to Parikshit, who renounced kingship in pursuit of religious merit.   Parikshit was the son of Abhimanyu/Uttara and grandson of Arjuna/Subadhra.   It is an elixir for attaining the highest goal on earth.   It is known as Paramahamsa Samhitha (Book of God-realised Souls).

Srimadh Bhagavatham came into circulation in the world through the narration by Ugrasravas, known as Suta Pauranikar.   He was the son of Sage Romaharshana, who had gained mastery over Sri Mahabharata and all the Puranas under the aegis of Sage Vedavyasa.   The narration was made to the sages headed by sage Saunaka, who were engaged in a thousand year long Dheergasatra, a sacrifice in the holy Naimisaranyam, famed for numerous sacrifices.

Suta Pauranikar was amongst the sages present at the bank of the Ganga, when Sukabrahmam expounded Sri Bhagavatham for the redemption of Parikshit. God be pleased.
