Sivagiri Pilgrimage started ; Listen to Sree Narayana Gurudeva Karma Sandesham

The 78th Sri Narayana Guru Sivagiri pilgrimage, also known as Sivagiri Theerthadanam started here yesterday.

Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan inaugurated the three-day 78th Sivagiri Theerthadana Mahamaham.Minister for Dewasom Kadanapally Ramachandran delivered the keynote address.The Theerthadana Sammelanam will be inaugurated by the former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam who will address the gathering after the procession on Friday.

An exhibition, ‘Sivagiri Vision 2010,’ to be organised with the support of all government departments and staging of cultural programmes are the other highlights. The ‘Narayana Guru Sandesha Ratha Yatra’ will be taken out from Bangalore to Sivagiri and the ‘Dharma Pathaka’ will be brought to Sivagiri from the Nagampadam temple in Kottayam.

The Sivagiri Mutt, built in 1904, is situated at the top of the Sivagiri hill near Varkala. Even decades after the guru breathed his last here in 1928; his samadhi continues to be thronged by thousands of devotees, donned in yellow attire, from different parts of Kerala and outside every year during the Sivagiri Pilgrimage days – 30 December to 1 January.
