“Lets us pool our resources globally and stand as one Hindu community” – Dr Swamy
Message for Hindu unity day 2012 to be held in ny on july 21, 2012 – Dr. Swamy
Message:
Hindus today thanks to the diaspora have become a global community. Also thanks to our sadhus and sanyasis, we have brought into our Hindu fold others such as as the Hare Krishna movement or prominent individuals such as Oscar winner and Hollywood actress Julia Roberts. Some others without converting to Hindu religion espouse Hindu concepts and beliefs, such as Lisa Miller an editor of the Newsweek magazine in which she penned an op ed titled “Now We are all Hindus”.
Hinduism is structured scientifically in the form of axioms and deductive logic. Vedas are our axioms, and Vedanta is our logically derived theorems. There is no immaculate Prophet for Hindus and hence Hindus can never be fundamentalists or terrorists. Moreover, Hindu religion is the only one theology that explicitly accepts that all religions if practicised faithfully lead to God. This unique feature makes secularism a natural value system for the Hindu. That is why we say Sarva Dharma Sama Bhava and Vasudeva Kutumbakkam.
Hinduism propogates decentralisation of power and individualism. This makes for easy acceptance of democracy and its survival in Hindu society. The original concept of Varna Ashrama Dharma was not birth determined but is today which is fossilisation of the concept. The original concept was structured on decentralisation of the four dimensions of power–knowledge, weapons, wealth and land. No individual in Varna system could possess more than one of these sources of power. But at the apex was the Brahmin who was a gyani without weapons, wealth or land. He or she represented sacrifice of worldly possession, and this sacrifice is adulated by Hindus. Thus our true spiritual gurus and national leaders like Sri Aurobindo or Swami Vivekaanda, or the recent instance Sri Parmacharya of the Kanchi Mutt, or political leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi and Jayaprakash Narayan dressed very simply. Churchill in fact sneeringly called Gandhi as a “half naked fakir”. Hindus worship such sacrifice. In Western society no leader can be not well dressed in the most recent fashion. Their religious leaders like the Pope are decked in satin and diamonds.
It can be seen that the West may have become materially prosperous but not happy. Westerners are increasingly turning to yoga, meditation, and to our sadhus and sanyasis for mental solace. Materialism creates greed and therefor prone to corruption. Sanatana Dharma teaches us to harmonise material growth and spiritual advancement. Therein lies true happiness.Bhagvat Gita emphasizes that we have freedom of action only. But reward for the same is based on the “karma calculus”. Sometimes we may work hard and get little, other times we may do nothing and get a lot. Karma calculus is the explanation.
Today to make the world a more happy place we need to propagate these Hindu values. As a first step therefore we must globalise our Hindu unity and rise above our petty interests. We need a new Virat Hindu who will not only propagate by shashtrarta [persuasion by discussion] and also to defend Hinduism against physical assault world wide, calumny forced conversion, terror, and distortion of our glorious past history.. We need a renaissance in Hindu attitudes. Lets us pool our resources globally and stand as one Hindu community. This is my message.
Subramanian Swamy
