Rajnath to visit kin of slain RSS activist in Kannur
Kannur: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to visit on Friday the family members of a slain RSS functionary in Kerala’s Kannurdistrict.
Elamthotathil Manoj, the district Shareerik Pramukh of the RSS, was hacked to death on September 01 allegedly by CPI(M) activists at Kathirur.
According to police and BJP sources, Singh will be arriving here in the afternoon and visit Manoj’s home at Kathirur near Thalassery town. He will also interact with RSS and BJP leaders at Thalassery.
Under pressure from the state unit of the RSS and BJP, the probe into the murder has been handed over to the CBI.
Taking a serious note of the murder, Singh had spoken to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy seeking details of the investigation.
Kerala police had arrested two persons in connection with the case.
The politically volatile area had a long history of RSS- CPI(M) violence, which claimed several lives since the 1980s.
After remaining largely calm for the last few years, tension re-surfaced recently with the BJP and CPI(M) poaching cadres from each side in certain pockets of the district.
