The Kerala Government Students Nursing Association (KGSNA) has urged the State Government that in the best interest of existing government nursing schools and colleges permission should not be granted for setting up new private nursing schools and colleges in the state.

The KGSNA General Secretary, Mr Arun Krishnan said here today that there were 183 private nursing schools and 49 colleges in the state and some had no basic infrastructure sufficient teaching staff as prescribed by the Indian Nursing Council (INC). There were 18 government nursing schools and three colleges in the state, with a strength of nearly 2,000 students and only nine
had recognition from the INC.

Mr Arun said the Association also demanded that the Government release stipend for nursing students in government schools and colleges, which was pending for the last three years.
