Chottanikkara (Kochi), Feb 10

The famous “Makam Darshan” of the Chottanikkara Amma falls, on the seventh day of the 10-day annual festival, on Feb 14.

Thousands of devotees, mainly women, congregate here on the day, to have a glimpse of the Devi, adorned with all golden jewelery and ornaments, when the sanctum sanctorum is opened at 2 p.m. To control the crowd elaborate arrangements have been made and dozens of police personnel and volunteers would be regulating the movement of the devotees, Mr P Rajendra Prasad, Executive Officer of the Chottanikkara Devaswom under the Cochin Devaswom Board told HT.

The “Makam Darshan” is more important for women than men, as it is believed that the Darshan of the Devi on this auspicious day would give them a long married life, he said. The festival will conclude on Feb 17.
