Ramayana Month begins

Scripture from Ramayana will be recited till the end of the month and people will abstain from entering into any new ventures or holding auspicious functions during this month. | ||
As Karnakatakam starts from today, Devotees throng the premises of all major temples offering prayers and poojas to ward off all evils. On the first new moon day in the month, the Vavu Bali will be performed by devotees as homage to the departed souls. | ||
Karkatakam is considered ideal for all kinds of rejuvenation therapies as advised by Ayurveda. The Karkataka Kanji is the most favoured dish of the time. Treatment for body pain and arthritis is performed during this month, since the weather is congenial. | ||
The pilgrimage called Nalambala Darsanam, is an important event during this month. The Nalambala Darsanam involves offering prayers at four temples on a single day. It is believed that by performing Nalambala Darsanam devotees are absolved of sins and granted peace and joy. | ||
Lord Rama, Lakshmana, Bharatha and Shatrughna are the deities of the Thriprayar, Moozhikulam, Koodalmanikyam and Payammal temples respectively. Except Moozhikulam in Ernakulam, the other three temples are in Thrissur district. | ||
Other temples dedicated to Lord Rama in Kadavallur, Thiruvilwamala, Thalassery and Thiruvangad, Lakshmana in Panangagara, Bharatha in Vattallur and Shatrughna in Naranathu Thekkedathu Mana too draw huge crowds. Courtesy:DailyPioneer | ||
