“We live in an age devoid of spiritual vision, which was an aftermath of the colonial Christian education with no spiritual content or the ancient educational values that sprang up from the Guru tradition,” Somasekharan said. Quoting Arnold Toynbee, he said that Europe itself had forgotten its tradition of the lofty vision, and the much boasted of Renaissance was no renaissance in the real sense. The classical tradition never revived with all its originality and what walked upon the plains of medieval Europe was only the unsalvaged ghost of the classical soul.
Consequently, the Darsana tradition of the world as a whole plummeted. And it was left to India to revive the spiritual culture and Sri Aurobindo was the pioneer who spearheaded this spiritual renaissance of India and the world, he said.
V Madhavan Pillai, who chaired the meeting called the attention of modern generation to the need of remembering the national heroes like Aurobindo. M Sakthikrishnan welcomed the gathering and Jayaprakash proposed a vote of thanks. |
