Panniyoor getting ready for Soma Yagam after 500 years

Panniyoor:  Sri Varaha Temple in Panniyoor is getting ready for another Soma Yagam after a long gap of 500 years.

This temple is one among the few and oldest Varaha temples in Kerala. Place is famous for Mezhathol Agnihothri, who has pleased Indra the king of Devas by conducting Soma yagam before five decades.

Banks of river ‘Nila’ will congregate this auspicious event from March 23rd to 28th. Two adjacent villages Panniyoor, literally means ‘the land of lord Varaha’, and Shukapuram have a long history of discontent. Renowned poet Sri Akitham anticipated that this yagam will bring both groups together and would help to build their relationship on coming years. It’s a very common belief that Parasurama (reincarnation of Lord Vishnu) build this temple to maintain the balance of Kerala, the piece of land made with his axe.

Kanipayoor Krishnan Namboodiri will be responsible for the vasthu of Yaga pavilion. Bhoomi pooja would be done on 1st of March by Guruvayoor temple ‘tandri’ (main priest). Construction of temporary pavilion and amenities would start on 7th March. Thanoor manakal Parameswaran Namboodiri will be the honourable host. Jadavedan Namboodiri and Sreedharan Namboodiri will be the main priests to oversee the yagam.
